Getting the exact frame
Pause the video at roughly the right moment, then use the left and right arrow keys (or the step buttons in the player controls) to move frame by frame. Once you have the exact image you want, click Capture. The canvas reads the frame that is currently displayed in the player.
Creating thumbnails
Video thumbnails for YouTube, podcast covers and social cards are often captured this way. For the best result, use a high-quality source file at the original resolution and set image quality to Maximum.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution is the output?
The captured image matches the resolution of the video exactly. A 1080p video produces a 1920×1080 JPG.
Can I capture multiple frames?
Use the Extract Frames tool instead — it captures frames at a chosen interval automatically.
The image looks blurry.
If the video is blurry at that moment (motion blur, low source quality), the capture will be too. Try pausing on a cleaner frame.
MOV files from my iPhone don't work.
MOV with H.264 works in all browsers. MOV with HEVC works in Safari but not in Chrome or Firefox. Convert to MP4 first if needed.
